Authentic Developmentally Attuned Professional Training for Teachers
ADAPT is an approach to parenting and education that has been developed by Simcha Chesner, Ph.D., and Sara Markowitz, Ph.D. over the past three decades. It is grounded in the following principles:
- Children’s social-emotional needs must be integrated with the need to achieve.
- The teacher-student relationship is a central factor in empowering social-emotional needs of students.
- When teachers are attuned to 4 Basic Social-Emotional needs they are internalized by students as meaningful and significant.
- Learning flows naturally out of developmental attunement.
Why don’t children thrive and learn optimally?
They believe school is an antagonistic war zone where teachers are basically perceived as the enemy. Students do not see teachers as caring about them as individuals with social and emotional needs. Students learn to “work” the system, at the same time that they neglect themselves.
In this In-Service Seminar teachers learn:
- How over 100 years of scientific research has identified connection, ability, meaning, and pleasure (CAMP) as the four basic social-emotional needs of students.
- How teachers in the twenty-first century can become a source of social-emotional empowerment rather than simply being sources of dry information, better obtained from artificial intelligence.
- How teachers who are attuned to children’s social-emotional needs, require much less classroom discipline.
- How attunement to students’ social-emotional needs creates happy people, beyond material success.
- How developmentally attuned teaching is absolutely necessary when dealing with special populations such as students with attention difficulties, learning disabilities, and those on the autistic spectrum.
- How to teach Judaic Studies including Talmud, Mishnah, and Torah in an ADAPT-T manner empowers students and brings them closer to Yiddishkeit.
How many hours of training does the basic workshop require and who ought to attend?
The workshop consists of six hours of in-service training. It is appropriate for teachers of kindergarten, elementary, middle school, and high school grades. Although it is geared toward classroom teachers, guidance counselors, school psychologists, and social workers also benefit.
The program may be offered live, by having a Kosher ADHD Certified Therapist physically offer the training at your site or via Zoom where the training is offered in an interactive manner via the internet.
The teacher in-service training may be split into 3 separate modules:
- The ADAPT-T Educational Approach in Teaching Social-Emotional Intelligence within the Jewish Day School Classroom.
- ADAPT-T as a model of developing Lesson Plans that empower the soul of students within Secular Studies.
- ADAPT-T within Special Populations such as ADHD, ASD, and Learning Disabilities.
Each module may be purchased separately and includes a 2-hour training for up to 30 teachers and staff, for the fee of $2000 U.S.
All three modules may be purchased together and include the full six-hour training for $5000 U.S.
